Trademark Classes in Singapore
Translate the real business model into accurate Nice classes and IPOS descriptions instead of copying a competitor or claiming every class.

There are 45 classes, but the specification—not the number alone—defines scope
Singapore applications use the Nice Classification, which has 45 classes of goods and services. A class number alone does not define protection: the specification must accurately describe the goods or services for which protection is sought.
What this work should cover
Products and services
List what customers buy now and what is realistically planned in Singapore.
Business-model mapping
Separate branded products, retail or wholesale activity, software, platforms, training, repair, manufacturing and other services where relevant.
IPOS wording
Use suitable Classification Database descriptions where they accurately fit; pre-approved wording can reduce objection risk and affect the official fee.
Portfolio consistency
Compare Singapore wording with Malaysia and international filings, but adapt it to local practice rather than copying blindly.
Put the IPOS issue into commercial context
An OEM manufactures goods for another brand and also launches its own label. Manufacturing services, the finished branded products and distribution activities may raise different class questions; map each revenue and brand role first.

Singapore-specific questions

Singapore uses the Nice Classification, which currently contains 45 classes: classes 1–34 for goods and 35–45 for services.
Can one application cover several classes?
Yes, but official fees are calculated per class and each class must contain accurate goods or services descriptions.
Should I copy the wording from my Malaysia application?
Not automatically. The commercial scope should remain consistent, but accepted descriptions and examination practice can differ between offices.
